About

BIOGRAPHY

Sound Cinema is a pair of brothers and proud Huron Wendat nation members, Giacomo & Patrick Di Blasio, who are based in Vancouver, BC.

In their primary school years, the duo decided to start their own band after watching ‘School of Rock’. The student musicians in that film quickly became inspirations and the brothers hastily signed up to perform at their elementary school talent show performing a mix of original songs & covers by the Kooks. They quickly fell in love with the adrenaline rush of performing and promptly turned the garage into a studio and began writing their own music.

On numerous occasions in their early years, rehearsals and recording sessions would end early; signalled by the cacophony of bottles smashing against the garage door delivered by upset neighbours who couldn't handle the sonic genius; not to mention a few scathing letters sent from City Hall.

Sound Cinema has come a long way since their early days in the garage — now they’re a pop band.

To date, Sound Cinema has opened for EG Daily at The Whiskey a Go Go (500 people) and performed at the Pacific Coliseum for Truth and Reconciliation (5000 people). They’ve also performed at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival and won the Musician’s Institutes Battle of the Bands in Los Angeles, California.

In the College scene, Sound Cinema performed at both the Welcome Back BBQ (4000 people) and end of year Block Party (4000 people) at UBC supporting artists like Gold Link, Troyboi and Joey Bada$$.

In June of 2019, Sound Cinema was slotted to open up for The 1975 (17,000 people) in Istanbul, Turkey but, unfortunately, the show was cancelled by the government due to civil and political unrest.

The band released their first EP in April of 2019 with two supporting music videos for their singles Ode to Ecstasy & Touch My Heart.

To date, they’ve dropped a series of follow up singles, experimenting with new sounds during lock-down and re-discovering their sound.

Their latest releases 'Planes' and 'Shock Me (Like You Mean It)' have been featured on a number of Spotify playlists and will be followed up with another single July of 2023.
